Workshop: Circuits and Coding

(Quicklink: https://nescitech.org/coding)

Join these brand new CODING workshops with Santi and Seb, high school student instructors.

Workshops are FREE. Sundays 3:00-4:00 pm and 4:00-5:00 pm. For grades 3, 4, 5.

These workshops introduce concepts of coding and robotics in a fun, interactive way.

Class size is limited to 8 students. Register only your child, not a parent.

There will be 2 sections, one for kids new to robotics from 3-4pm and one from 4-5pm for developing robotics students. Choose only ONE, the first if you are new at to these courses.

All materials needed, including Chromebooks, microbits, meowbits, and cutebots, will be provided for use and will remain as part of the class.

Next Workshops:  Sundays, Sep 28, Oct 19, 26, Nov 2, 9, 16

My name is Santi, and I'm the founder and CEO of an organization called Circuits and Code 4 All, which aims to provide elementary-school students with access to coding and robotics. To expand my program, I've brought in my longtime friend Seb to help teach more sections. We both have lots of experience in robotics and programming, and we are really excited to get to know you all.
Computers, Controllers, and Code:
A Coding Kickoff

THIS IS A BEGINNER LEVEL COURSE.
NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
Only enthusiasm ; )

We will meet weekly to explore the fascinating and ever-important world of coding and robotics. Each week will have its own coding-related topic and project. We will begin with the basics of computers and coding, and work our way up to making simple games both on Scratch and on the Microbits.

Through this course, students will learn the ideas and thought processes that lay the foundation of computer programming. This course will not have any required homework. I look forward to meeting you all in the fall!

Curriculum comes from Circuits and Code 4 All: circuitsandcode4all.org

FREE, Sundays 3-4 pm, Sep 28, Oct 19, 26, Nov 2, 9, 16.

From Beginner to Builder:
An Intro to Building Robots and Coding Them, Too

BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF BLOCK CODING IS HELPFUL.

We will meet weekly to explore the fascinating and ever-important world of coding and robotics. Each week will have its own project (with the exception of the final 2-week-long project) that will have a different theme and lecture. Lessons will include a short intro of a topic, followed by a coding project or two. We will code with Microbits, Meowbits, CuteBots, and Scratch. Students will learn critical thinking skills and teamwork, along with the skills they will gain through exposure to hardware through a software lens. There may be homework, but it will be limited to brainstorming ideas and reflections on the previous week; everything else is optional.

My name is Sebastian (Seb), and I’m really excited to be teaching this coding and robotics class! I’m passionate about science, engineering, and technology—I started my middle school’s first-ever Science Club so other students could share in the joy of big questions and discovery. I’m certified to use advanced maker tools like 3D printers and laser cutters, and I’ve helped design and build prosthetic hands for kids through a program called Hands for Hope. I also code in several languages, including Python, HTML, and Lua, and I love finding creative ways to combine science with technology, whether it’s robotics, rocketry, or engineering challenges. In High School, I compete in VEX Robotics, and I've won multiple awards. And this past summer, I helped teach classes in biomedical engineering. Most of all, I’m excited to spark curiosity and make coding and robotics fun for everyone in this class.
