Woodworking Workshops Details
+ The Woodworking Workshop will focus on learning how to use basic hand tools to create a practical or ornamental gift for someone’s birthday or other special day. Usually 3 weekly sessions per workshop; groups of 4 to 6 students; materials for a basic project included.
+ The lead instructor, Bob Phinney, has been a teacher for 46 years and has taught math, algebra, Latin, French, English, chemistry, astronomy, earth science, geology, electronics, computer programming, woodworking, graphic design, photography, amateur radio, and orienteering. Adult instructors in this program go through CORI/SORI verification.
+ Parents are welcome to stay during the workshop to assist their own children, or to hang out in another room and work on their own. WIFI access and a ready supply of coffee, tea, and snacks is available.
Tour Before Registering
+ Check us out before signing up! You want to know us, see our facilities, and meet our staff. Come to one of our regular weekend open houses. Or call us to schedule an appointment to visit. We want you and your child to be comfortable with our facility and program.
Other Logistics and Housekeeping
+ Although workshops are structured instructional time, we recognize that some students need frequent breaks or change of pace, so students are welcome to switch in and out of structured activities as they wish. Students arriving earlier or staying later will have unstructured time to socialize, work on projects, play games, watch educational science videos, or just chill out.
+ NE SciTech offers snacks and lunch items for purchase separately (most items are $1 or $1.50 each) or students may bring their own food.
+ We have a variety of project kits and materials available so students have choices. Small projects are built into the price of the workshop. Large projects must have parental approval.
+ We will try to accommodate parents’ commuting and work schedules for early drop-offs and late pickups. If you need that extra time, please understand that it will be unstructured activity time (as explained above).
Please be aware of our Cancellation and Refund Policies. For questions, e-mail info@nescitech.org or call 508-720-4179.
In addition to registering for this workshop, please fill out the Workshop Student Permissions Form.
